Ray Wrede Lifetime Achievement Award

Ray was an avid cyclist who wanted Delaware to have an Annual Senior Games. In 1991 he joined a committee under Sussex County Senior Services and quickly became passionate about making the new organization thrive. Initially Ray served as part of the organization’s Fund Raising committee and to help the organization survive he willingly took out a personal line of credit to assure financial stability. He actively contacted government organizations and businesses to obtain contributions to support the organization. He served as the DSO President and was instrumental in DSO separating from Sussex County Senior Services in 1994. Ray served as President of DSO until his untimely death on November 29, 1995. The 1996 Delaware Games were named in his honor by a decree made by Governor Carper.

In honor of all the contributions that Ray Wrede made to establishing DSO and providing the fledgling organization with the direction and support it needed to grow and thrive the Delaware Senior Olympics has established a Lifetime Achievement Award in his name. The Ray Wrede Lifetime Achievement Award will be DSO’s most distinguished award. DSO is presenting the first Ray Wrede Lifetime Achievement Award, posthumously to Ray, and is pleased that members of his family are with us today to receive the Award and to join us in celebrating Ray’s life.
