Chip Hannig’s swimming career seemed over when he graduated from York (Pennsylvania) College in 1976, having been named the school’s outstanding swimmer.
The Salesianum School graduate returned home to Wilmington, soon began operating his own business and, like many his age, filled his leisure hours with softball and recreational running.
“When I started running I didn’t start out with the intention of doing everything I did,” said Hannig, who’d been on Sallies' cross-country and swim teams. “I was just doing it for health. Next thing I know I’m doing races and then you want to go faster, farther, and all that.”
