Sherry S. Polite

April 24, 1944 - March 14, 2024

Sherry Jane Polite (née Strang), of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.  She was surrounded with love and support from her devoted family.

Born and raised in Media, PA to the late Ethel (née White) and Harry Strang, Sherry was a graduate of Penncrest High School. With a sharp mind and a love for numbers, Sherry went on to receive her B.S. in Education from West Chester University and her M.S. in Education from Widener University.  She enjoyed a lengthy career as a Math Teacher in Delaware Public Schools.

Sherry’s varied interests extended beyond mathematics and into the arts.  She was thrilled to travel as a chaperone with the Delaware Valley Symphonic Band on 3 tours overseas, and she was the proud seamstress for all the costumes displayed in the Dicken’s Christmas Village at the Macy’s Department Store in Philadelphia.

Above all, Sherry’s family was her number one priority.  She was a devoted mother to her two sons, always supporting them in their various activities.  She especially enjoyed watching them play baseball from Little League through high school.  Sherry looked forward to summers with family at Rehoboth Beach, and she treasured every minute with her three grandchildren.

The family would like to acknowledge Loretta, Sherry’s friend and caregiver, for all of her love and support.

Sherry is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jay Polite, and her sons, Ted Polite (Bev) of Elkton, MD and Dan Polite (Jen) of Wilmington, DE. She was the beloved grandmother of Sydney, Alexis, and Caleb and sister to Bonnie Strang and Dick Strang, both of Media, PA.

Friends and family are invited to Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21 for Sherry’s funeral service. There will be a visitation from 10-11 am with the service beginning at 11 am.  Burial at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA will follow.
